• 60 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Ladies’ 10-pin bowling scratch champion is Shirley Bukaluk, with Lena Munday the runner-up.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Canadian champion Pelican Lake Petie Two with owner Cec Leech took first place in the Open All Ages Stake at Brandon Retriever Club’s trial.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Mike Leclerc scored twice, including the game-winning marker in overtime, to propel the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-4 victory over the Spokane Chiefs in the opening game of the WHL final. Other scorers for Brandon were Bobby Brown, Chris Dingman and Mark Dutiaume.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Ashley Neufeld smiled, glanced at her mom with a look of flabbergast and sunk into her chair a bit, an expected reaction from a teenaged girl who’d just received a very public surprise. Neufeld, a Grade 12 student at Vincent Massey high school, was named the Brandon Youth Hockey Association’s female player of the year at the BYHA’s annual awards banquet. She played goal for the Assante Predators female midget B team.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Ashley Robinson touched the ball down three times and connected on three converts as the Minnedosa Chancellors steamrolled the Vincent Massey Vikings 68-5 in girls’ Westman High School Rugby action at Massey.
