• 50 YEARS AGO — The 1976 Labatt’s Best-Ball Golf League got under way. Andy Malcolm’s two birdies, on the fourth and 18th holes, helped Malcom and Art Flath to a best-ball 74 and a 15-9 win over Mel Beatty and Dwight Kearns.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Grant Coulter shot a four-over-par 75 to take the men’s title at the Shilo-Crocus Golf Open. Lucille Graves won the female crown with a 94.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Richard Lovelace announced he would transfer from the University of Saskatchewan to Brandon University and be eligible to suit up for the national champion Bobcats in the 1996-97 GPAC season.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Chipper Osimane and Kade Turnbull both scored twice as the Vincent Massey Vikings beat the visiting Virden Golden Bears 8-3 in Brandon High School Soccer League action.
