CONTAINER FRAUD

A man who allegedly sold sea can containers that didn’t belong to him was arrested on Thursday.

A man posted an advertisement online for sea can containers, and he met with a buyer in the 800 block of Victoria Avenue on Thursday morning, the Brandon Police Service said in a news release.

He received a $1,500 cash payment for two sea can containers, which the buyer planned to pick up at 5 p.m., BPS said.

Police said the containers belonged to a business on the 300 block of Pacific Avenue and weren’t for sale.

The buyer showed police a photo of the suspect holding the cash, and police positively identified him, BPS said.

Officers found and arrested the 48-year-old suspect at a hotel on the 100 block of Fifth Street at around 4:22 p.m.

Police charged the man with fraud under $5,000 and later released him on an undertaking with a court date scheduled in July.

CAR TRAPPED UNDER SEMI

Brandon police responded to a collision after a car got trapped beneath a semi-trailer early Friday morning.

Members of the Brandon Police Service were sent to a collision at the intersection of 18th Street and the Trans-Canada Highway at around 3:24 a.m.

A car had rear-ended a semi-trailer, and the car got trapped under the trailer, BPS said in a news release.

The 24-year-old man who was driving the car freed himself from the vehicle, and an ambulance took him to Brandon Regional Health Centre, police said.

BPS said the man sustained what appeared to be minor injuries.

Officers stayed on scene to help clear the wreckage until around 5:20 a.m.

BPS said tow trucks were expected to remove the semi-trailer from the side of the road in daylight.

WEAPON POSSESSION

Brandon police arrested a man who allegedly met police at the door with a machete while officers were responding to reports of a disturbance early Friday morning.

The Brandon Police Service received reports of an intoxicated man who was yelling and causing a disturbance at a home on the 300 block of 16th Street at around 2:41 a.m.

Officers went to the home, and a man opened the door while holding a machete and yelling at police, BPS said in a news release.

The man listened to the officers’ demands, and police arrested him.

The 20-year-old man was charged with possessing a weapon and held in custody at BPS detention cells. Police said he would be released on an undertaking once sober with a court date in July.
