• 60 YEARS AGO — Cousins Bruce and Tim Bateman were first and second place winners in the Brandon rodeo competitions held in the Brandon Curling Club.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Westridge B received three home run performances from Caroline MacKay, Patti Whyte and Michelle Bordyniuk en route to a 28-10 win over East End A in Brandon Community Girls’ Softball League play.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Dennis Black and the Fowler Firebirds were in high gear as the Brandon Merchants Fastball League opened its season on seven fronts. Black blasted three home runs as the Firebirds humbled Pepsi 29-3. Dale Anderson, Louis Phillips, Darrell Sobcow and Mike Bradbury also homered for Fowler’s.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Ian Chester pitched a two-hitter to pace Guild Insurance past Home Hardware 11-0 in a Brandon Midget Baseball League game at Westbran Stadium. Chester fanned 12 batters in seven innings.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Reg Couckuyt opened defence of his Westman Golf Tour title with a 73 at Shilo Country Club to win the Ducks Unlimited Open by three strokes.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings claimed their third Western Hockey League title, defeating the Seattle Thunderbirds 8-4 to win the series 4-1.
