• 60 YEARS AGO — The Guardian Finance team recently captured the Thunderbird City Mixed 10-pin Bowling League title. Members of the winning team are Fred Elliott, Jean Langlois, Ray Rathwell, Phyllis Elliott and Milo Cale.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Sherri Williamson slugged a home run and got credit for the pitching win as West End dropped Westridge 26-13 in a bantam division game of the Inter-City Girls Softball League.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Dave Bebbington recorded the shutout as Brandon Club United thumped Adman Kicks 6-0 in a Brandon Senior Soccer League game. Scoring goals were John Kelleher, Jeff Mortensen, Bill Clark, Wade Ritchie, Mike Corrigan and Ard Biesheuvel.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Virden’s Club West Rage under-14 girls won the western Canadian volleyball championship, sweeping Winnipeg’s Shock 2-0 in the final. Erika Buchanan was named MVP, while Alyssa Warnett and Jen Dixon made the all-star team.
