After a long winter is finally in the rear-view mirror, the wildlife that lives around and among us begins to awaken and show themselves.
And one of the most photogenic of the local fauna that dot the Manitoba countryside — and that are always sure to attract photographers — are the fox dens.
Sun photographer Tim Smith monitors a few such dens that he knows of every spring for signs of new life. This week he hit pay dirt, taking a series of photos of some playful young fox kits playing outside their hold west of Brandon, while they wait for their mother to return.
