SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES

A Brandon man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a massage therapist last month.

The local massage therapist reported on April 24 that a client had sexually assaulted her and briefly prevented her from leaving the room, the Brandon Police Service said in a news release Thursday.

The woman broke free from the man’s grip on her arm and was able to get out of the room, police said.

At around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, police arrested the 37-year-old man at his residence on the 1500 block of 20th Street and charged him with sexual assault and forcible confinement.

Police released the man on an undertaking, and he is scheduled to appear in court in July.

INTIMATE IMAGE POSTED

City police arrested a 20-year-old man who allegedly posted an intimate photo of a woman to social media earlier this month.

The Brandon Police Service received a complaint from a 19-year-old woman on May 5 that a man had accessed her phone and used his own phone to take a photo of the intimate image, which he subsequently posted, BPS said in a news release.

Police arrested the man on Monday and charged him with distributing an intimate image without consent.

BPS released the accused on an undertaking, and he is scheduled to appear in court in July.

COCAINE DISCARDED

A man was arrested on Monday evening after allegedly fleeing police and discarding drugs in the process.

A Brandon Police Service officer who was on patrol saw a rental vehicle on Willowdale Boulevard drive off in an “apparent attempt” to evade police at around 11 p.m., BPS said in a news release.

Officers turned on their emergency lights, but the vehicle went through a red light at 26th Street, police said. The driver tried to turn right onto 18th Street and jumped the median, BPS said.

Police said the vehicle proceeded to crash into a light post and hedges.

The driver ran away from the scene, and a canine track led police to the suspect, who was nearby, a short time later, BPS said.

Police said the 29-year-old man had the vehicle’s keys on him.

Officers found nine grams of cocaine or crack cocaine around the 2500 block of Brandon Avenue that had been discarded during the incident, police said.

BPS arrested the man and charged him with flight from police and possessing an illicit substance for the purpose of trafficking.

He was held in BPS detention cells and scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
