• 60 YEARS AGO — The Rivers Comets took advantage of six Souris errors as they romped to a 16-4 decision in the South Central Baseball League. Carl Cunningham chalked up his first win of the season while Rick Locke was tagged with the loss. Wilf Taylor had two singles to lead the Comets and Bob Whattam blasted a two-run homer. Neil Reeves and Scott Wareham each added triples.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Darcy Ready outduelled Todd Hamilton to give Curly’s a 3-1 win over Brockie in a Brandon Minor Baseball Association East End “A” game. Ready allowed only one hit, a single by Dave Johnston.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Jeff McMaster and John Bristol scored one goal each and Wayne Haggarty recorded the shutout as the Vincent Massey Vikings downed the Neelin Spartans 2-0 in Brandon High School Soccer League varsity boys playoff action.

• 30 YEARS AGO — David Darguzas’ tenure with the Brandon Wheat Kings ended abruptly. The 17- year-old left winger, chosen amid much fanfare in the first round of the 1994 WHL bantam draft, was snapped up by the expansion Edmonton Ice in a special dispersal draft.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Jesse Arbuckle raced home on a wild pitch to give Souris a 15-14 win over Virden in SouthWest Baseball League play.
