TORONTO – Canadian Owen Caissie, Kyle Stowers and Javier Sanoja each knocked in two runs to push the Miami Marlins to an easy series-opening 8-2 win against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.

Miami starter Janson Junk (3-5) surrendered a run on eight hits, but struck out three with no walks in five innings to help the Marlins (26-29) take a season-high fourth win in a row.

Toronto (25-29) dropped its second straight before 41,177 in the first game of the season with an open roof at Rogers Centre.

Ernie Clement belted a solo shot to left in the sixth off reliever Lake Bachar to pull the home side to within 5-2. The Blue Jays’ only other run came in the fifth from a Yohendrick Pinango single up the middle.

Miami enjoyed an early 1-0 lead after an opening double from Xavier Edwards. He scored on Canadian Otto Lopez’s one-out sacrifice fly to left. Blue Jays starter Trey Yesavage (2-2) retired 13 in order until a one-out double from Sanoja in the fifth. He was doubled home by Caissie of Burlington, Ont.

Yesavage yielded three runs in the sixth. He finished 6 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in a 98-pitch outing.

Blue Jays 30-year-old righty Tanner Andrews made his MLBaseball debut with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. He was added to the roster to replace the injured Dylan Cease.

TAKEAWAYS

Blue Jays: Outfielder Nathan Lukes returned to the lineup with a three-single outing after a 28-game absence due to a left hamstring ailment. He reached base a fourth time when nailed in the head by reliever Andrew Nardi in the seventh. To make room for Lukes on the roster, Davis Schneider was optioned to triple-A Buffalo.

Marlins: Caissie’s 25th and 26th RBIs leaves him second on the Marlins behind Toronto native Liam Hicks, who has 44.

KEY MOMENT

Before the game, the Blue Jays placed Cease on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring injury, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was listed as day-to-day because of left-elbow soreness after being hit with a pitch on Sunday.

KEY STAT

Until Monday, Guerrero was the only Blue Jays position player to have played in all of Toronto’s 53 games in 2026.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays haven’t announced a starter for the middle game of their series against Miami on Tuesday. Righty Sandy Alcantara (3-3) will start for the Marlins.
