KILLARNEY MAN CHARGED IN CARMAN HOMICIDE
Police have charged a Killarney man with second-degree murder after a body was found in a charred truck in Carman this week.
RCMP were called about a fire at a self-storage compound around 1 a.m. Monday. The body of a 55-year-old man was found inside, RCMP said.
The death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy.
On Wednesday, RCMP said they had arrested a 44-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman.
Gordon Blaine McTaggart, of Killarney, was charged with second-degree murder and the woman was released without being charged, RCMP said Thursday.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
MAIL THEFT
Brandon police arrested two women on Tuesday after they allegedly broke into an apartment building and stole mail last month.
The Brandon Police Service received a report of a break and enter on the 300 block of Fourth Street on April 21.
Surveillance footage showed one suspect inside the building breaking into mailboxes and stealing mail, BPS said in a news release.
Police used the footage to identify the suspect and arrested a 44-year-old woman at a residence on Buttercup Bay. A 36-year-old woman was also arrested.
BPS charged both women with theft of mail, possession of break-in instruments and break and enter to commit mischief.
PROPERTY MISCHIEF
A boy who allegedly smashed the window of a vehicle and stole from a Brandon business was arrested on Wednesday.
A man reported to police at around 8:40 p.m. that his vehicle window had been smashed at a hotel on the 1900 block of Queens Avenue.
Shortly after, another caller reported that a young male was “swinging a belt around at people” and yelling in the parking lot of a business on the 1600 block of 18th Street, the Brandon Police Service said in a new release. The incident was caught on surveillance footage.
Police said the suspect left the area, and BPS got another call reporting that a male, who matched the previous description, had stolen $60 worth of items from a store on Richmond Avenue.
Officers arrested the intoxicated youth and held him in custody until Thursday to prevent “the continuation of his behaviour.”
He is charged with mischief to property and theft under $5,000.
