• 40 YEARS AGO — Blair Fordyce hit a pair of home runs, added a pair of singles in four trips to the plate and knocked in four runs, but couldn’t put the Kenton Cougars over the top in a 14-5 loss in the Virden and District Fastball League. Donald Twigg out-duelled Wayne Crampain on the mound.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Darren Rozdeba pitched five strong innings and knocked in four runs to lead the Hamiota Red Sox past the Sioux Valley Chiefs 16-1 in a Yellowhead Baseball League game. Rozdeba, who pitched five innings and gave up only three singles, sparkled at the plate with two doubles and a single. Teammate Craig Geekie also drove in four runs on a homer and triple.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Dauphin Kings forwards T.J. Warkentin and Cory Baldwin have accepted hockey scholarships at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. Warkentin and Baldwin were 1-2 on the Kings in MJHL playoff scoring.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Brandonite Quinn Skrupa captured gold in the novice high-performance all-around competition at the Canadian artistic gymnastics championships in Edmonton. The Brandon Eagles gymnast scored 58.850 to beat British Columbia’s Ilka Juk by 1.650 points for the title. Skrupa was tied 13th with a score of 14.000 on the vault, but had the highest score on the uneven bars, 14.950, and the second highest score on both the balance beam, 15.125, and the floor, 14.775.
