• 40 YEARS AGO — Grant Olynyk hammered two home runs, including a grand slam, and totalled seven runs batted in as Sell-X defeated Rent-a-Wreck 13-9 in a Brandon Merchant Fastball League game.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Brandon starting pitcher Lyle Wright scattered five hits over nine innings as the Cloverleafs shut out the host Riverside Canucks 7- 0 in a Manitoba Senior Baseball League game. Wright struck out 12 Canucks.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Buddy Mayert was the star of the show in the South West Baseball League. Mayert struck out 10 to earn the win and also helped his own cause with a single, a double, an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Reston Rockets to a 3-1 victory over the Virden Oilers. Mayert scattered just two hits and five walks over seven innings of work.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Brandonite Katharina Knipping finished third at the provincial air rifle championships in Winnipeg. Knipping, a member of the Brandon Wildlife Junior Rifle Club, won the final, but the overall title is based on three different qualification rounds. She struggled in the middle one and ended up in third. Knipping scored 198.9 on her 20 shots in the final.
