The annual Travellers Day Parade rolled through Brandon on Saturday with strong participation and positive reviews from spectators and participants alike, according to organizers.

Travellers Day Parade Association secretary-treasurer Norm Joss said feedback from those involved in this year’s event was overwhelmingly positive.

“Based on what I’ve been hearing from people who saw the parade and were in the parade, it seems like 95 per cent of them were very happy with what they thought,” Joss told the Sun on Sunday.

The parade featured approximately 75 entries, an increase from about 60 entries last year. Joss said several last-minute registrations helped boost the final count.

Organizers estimate that about 800 people participated in the parade, which unfolded under hot weather conditions.

“It was a very hot day for people, and everybody was great at the event,” Joss said.

Among the highlights were several musical groups that added colour and energy to the procession. The Gold Band, a middle-years band from Winnipeg, brought more than 105 performers to Brandon and travelled on two buses to take part in the parade.

“They were fantastic,” Joss said.

Also returning was the St. Andrews Pipe Band, which Joss said has participated in the parade for roughly 25 years. The Crocus Plains and Neelin drumline also took part, continuing a long-standing tradition of entertaining parade-goers. Falun Dafa Association, a colourful Chinese cultural band from Winnipeg, rounded out the musical lineup with its 32 members.

Another crowd favourite was the team of clowns from J.R. Reid School, who marked their 21st year participating in the parade.

“They did a super job getting around,” Joss said.

Behind the scenes, Joss credited a dedicated group of volunteers for making the event possible. The parade association consists of 11 members, while a total of 18 volunteers worked on parade operations this year.

He also praised the Brandon Police Service for helping ensure the event ran safely and smoothly.

“They provide excellent support for us by protecting the intersections and whatnot. They are super as far as helping us out with the parade,” Joss said.

With increased participation, strong community support and a successful milestone celebration, Joss said, the 2026 Travellers Day Parade continued a tradition that has remained a fixture in Brandon for seven decades.
