Brandon Pride is gearing up for its biggest Pride in the Park celebration to date, with assistance from the province.
The Manitoba government announced Monday it is spending $33,000 to support Brandon Pride through its community development program From the Ground Up — Safe Healthy Communities for All.
Aided by funding from the grant, Brandon Pride’s annual Pride in the Park event will take place at the Riverbank Discovery Centre instead of its past Rideau Park venue.

With capacity for 3,000 people, the Fusion Credit Union stage will host performances by acclaimed artists, including contestants from the first three seasons of Drag Race Canada.
“Pride in the Park is going to be the biggest one that we’ve had as an organization,” Brandon Pride chair Nora Wilson said Monday. “We have three big-name drag performers from Canada’s Drag Race coming in. That will be Kaos, Beth and Ilona Verley.”
The event is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. on Saturday.
Artists sharing the stage include Miss Sandi Bay and the Rainbow Tornadoes, Bobby Dove and Mitchell Makoons in a duo with Caitlin Baker.
Wilson said about 50 tables will feature vendors, artisans and non-profit organizations.
Partners for the event include the Brandon Friendship Centre, the local men’s group the Good-Hearted Warriors and the Road Rebels Car Club.
The event is the culmination of Pride events this week in Brandon.
Today, Brandon’s 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and allies have the opportunity to attend a Pride in Solidarity panel discussion on advocacy in the workplace at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
On Thursday at 6 p.m., a drop-in sign-making workshop for Sunday’s rally and march will be held at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba.
The rally and march will start and end at Brandon City Hall on Sunday, with an option to finish the march halfway at Brandon University.
“Whether you are part of the community, or you are an ally, or you just want to learn more about the queer community, come on out — we’re happy to have you,” Wilson said Monday.
All Pride events for this week’s celebration are listed on Brandon Pride’s social media platforms.
