SASKATOON – Mounties say they have charged a woman in the death of a child last month in a First Nation north of Saskatoon.
RCMP say officers responded to a report of a child in medical distress on May 10 in Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation.
The child, who Mounties say was under the age of 12, was declared dead at the scene.
The death was deemed suspicious and the RCMP Saskatoon Serious Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
A 67-year-old was arrested Wednesday and charged with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, failure to provide necessaries of life and abandoning a child.
RCMP did not say how the woman and child were related and did not name them.
