• 40 YEARS AGO — Many golfers have chased Peggy Clark. Few have been fortunate enough to catch her. However, Donna Lawson equalled her best effort ever at Sunnyside and managed to wrestle the Brandon City and District women’s crown from the defending champion with a 36-hole total of 173.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Trevor Kozak scattered nine hits and two walks over seven innings to help the Souris Cardinals post an 8-3 win over the Waskada Orioles.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Jasmine Duthie stopped a penalty kick on her way to posting the shutout as the Brandon United Hotshots blanked the MacGregor Mustangs 6-0 in under-18 girls action in the Westman Rural Youth Soccer League on Optimist Park. Rachelle Neilsen scored two goals for the Hotshots, while Angie Nickel, Crissy-Mae Watters, Katie McPhail and Natasha Hodkin added singles.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Former Brandonite Joel Friesen and the Halifax Hurricanes won the National Basketball League of Canada championship in Halifax. The Hurricanes beat the London Lightning 125-117 in Game 7 of the championship series. Halifax dominated the regular season, topping the Atlantic Division with a 29-11 record before cruising through the playoffs until they met the Lightning.
