• 40 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Andy Gobeil built up a moderate lead early on Sunday and then held on to enough of it to claim the Bowling World Cup provincial men’s ten-pin championship at Thunderbird Lanes.
• 30 YEARS AGO — The Ora Dental Marlins bared their teeth to Shawn Cory and the Riverside Canucks as the Brandon team racked up 18 hits off Cory and blasted their Manitoba Senior Baseball League rivals 10-5 at Belmont. Nate Andrews hit a triple and three singles for the Marlins. Craig Hodgson added four singles, while teammate Curtis Halls doubled and singled.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Travis Cline tossed a three-hitter to lead the Houstons Hitmen to an 8-2 win over the Applebee’s Expos in a MacArthur Senior AA Baseball League game at Kinsmen Stadium. Cline kept things tidy for the Hitmen, allowing just one walk and striking out two batters.Kirk Graham went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI to lead the Hitmen at the dish, while teammate Travis Campbell was 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Hartney Hoppers improved to 4-1 in the South WestBaseball League with a 12-4 win over the visiting Souris Elks.
