Brandon police arrested a man on Monday after he allegedly ran a red light and stop sign while impaired.

A Brandon Police Service officer saw a car travelling “at a high rate of speed” and run a red light at the intersection of 26th Street and Victoria Avenue at around 11:35 p.m., BPS said in a news release Tuesday.

BPS said the vehicle also failed to stop at a stop sign at 34th Street and Rosser Avenue.

Police activated their emergency lights, but the car didn’t immediately pull over, BPS said. The vehicle was ultimately stopped in Antelope Bay, where the driver showed signs of impairment, the release said.

The driver blew readings of 0.08 and 0.10, BPS said.

Police arrested the 19-year-old man and charged him with impaired driving, dangerous driving, flight from police and failing to comply with his release order.

The man’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days, police said.

Police held the man in BPS detention cells, intending to release him on Tuesday morning once sober. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
