• 40 YEARS AGO — Terrilyn Hurl scored twice and Cindy Bauche earned the shutout as Brandon Club Straycats blanked the Barbarians 4-0 in Brandon Senior Soccer League women’s action. Maxine Harvey and Stacey Corrigan also scored.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Russell’s Brad Clement carded a 4-under-par 68 in the final round to finish two shots ahead of St. Boniface’s Dave McLeod to win the Grey Owl championship at Clear Lake Golf Course.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Hometown Autoglass Cloverleafs lost in the final of a bantam AAA baseball tournament, dropping a 9-4 decision to the North Winnipeg Pirates. John Kaluzniak took the loss pitching five innings for Brandon, which watched the Pirates score five runs in the fifth inning. Dylan Happa had three hits and an RBI for Brandon.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Morgan Geekie allowed four runs on six hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings, but picked up the win as the Oak River Dodgers beat the visiting Virden Oilers 7-4 in one of three South West Baseball League games. Jeff Peel gave up 11 hits and two walks in six innings while allowing seven runs — five earned — and took the loss for the Oilers (6-3).
