IN LOCAL HISTORY

• 40 YEARS AGO — Rob Walker tossed a no-hitter over seven innings to lead the Brandon Selects to a 9-2 win over the Virden A’s in the Yellowhead Baseball League. Dennis Tucker rapped a double and a single and Chuck Elliot singled twice.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Phil Fafard Jr. of Brandon notched a hole-in-one on the 254-yard 11th hole at Glen Lea Golf Course. Fafard used a driver to notch the ace. Witnesses were Phil Fafard Sr. and Marc Plante.

• 20 YEARS AGO — In Virden, Ryan Reid homered and struck out 10 while tossing a complete game four-hitter to lead the Hoppers. Reid also doubled and singled and finished with three RBIs, while Mike Trager replied with three singles for the Oilers. Adam Hartman took the loss, giving up six runs on 10 hits and a walk with two strikeouts over four innings of work.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Jeff Wiebe pitched a complete game and the Marlins pushed across runs in each of the first four innings as they beat the Joe Beeverz Young Guns 10-4 in Andrew Agencies Senior AA Baseball League action. Sean Clegg took the loss after surrendering six runs in two innings of work. He allowed five hits, walked two, hit one batter and struck out a pair. Curtis Campbell and Eric Lypps each drove in a pair for the Marlins. Brett Kitt went 3-for-4 for the Young Guns and knocked in a run.
