• 40 YEARS AGO — Ross Tycoles hit three singles and winning pitcher Jim Paul doubled and singled as the Reston Rockets edged the Lyleton Leafs 6-5 in a South West Baseball League game. Jeff Murray doubled and singled twice for the Leafs.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Gerry Gordon scored two goals to lead the Park Avenue Titans to a 3-1 victory over the Minnedosa Triumph in Brandon Senior Soccer League men’s action. Jodi Luckins also scored for the Titans. Tyrus Cobb replied for the Triumph.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Rory Tycoles drove in three runs with a pair of singles to lead the way as the Reston Rockets blanked the Boissevain Centennials 8-0 in the SouthWest Baseball League. Tyler Henderson also had a pair of hits for the Rockets, while Brad Reimer replied with two singles for the Centennials.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Todd Heselwood threw a two-hitter and Warren Birch hit a grand slam home run as the Carberry Royals pounded the Austin A’s 10-1 in the Santa Clara Baseball League. Heselwood gave up two singles in six innings of work, picking up three strikeouts and one walk. Birch’s sixth-inning home run cracked the game wide open for the Royals (4-6-1), who also saw Brett Heselwood, Daylon Creasy and Travis Mealy cross the plate twice in the victory. John Rempel took the loss for the A’s (1-10-0) after giving up 12 hits.
