ASSAULT ON SEVENTH STREET
A 24-year-old man was charged with assault following a disturbance in the 400 block of Seventh Street Thursday evening.
Officers were called to an apartment on that block shortly before 8 p.m. When they arrived, officers observed obvious signs that a 21-year-old female had been assaulted. Due to her level of intoxication and behaviour at the scene, she was arrested for breaching the peace, and held in a Brandon Police Service detention cell until sober.
The 24-year-old male who was also arrested at the scene and charged with assault was slated to appear in court on July 10.
SPITTING INCIDENT
A 46-year-old man has been charged with assault after he allegedly spat on a woman early Thursday morning.
At about 3:40 a.m. on Thursday, the Brandon Police Service received a report of an assault, though BPS did not release a location. Police stated that at the time of the incident, the 46-year-old man was intoxicated and was in the company of a 52-year-old female he was prohibited from communicating with under the conditions of a probation order.
At one point, he apparently spat on her and then charged at her. The other occupants of the residence requested that the man be removed from the property. By the time police arrived, he had already left the scene. He was arrested later that day and charged and subsequently released on an undertaking. He is to appear in court on Sept. 17.
TRAIN DERAILMENT
Canadian National Railway police reported a technical derailment at 100 Van Horne Ave. on Thursday during the noon hour after the wheels of a rail car came off the tracks. The rail cars remained upright, no hazardous materials were involved and there were no injuries reported.
The derailment occurred within the rail yard. Brandon Fire and Emergency Services was notified and First Street was closed in both directions to ensure public safety.
Police officers assisted with traffic management to help alleviate congestion. Police cadets assumed traffic control until barricades were installed. A media advisory was issued to inform the public of the road closure. The scene was managed safely, and First Street reopened to traffic before 3 p.m.
