10 a.m. — It’s McCain Foods’ Free Fry Day at the Keystone Centre today until 4 p.m. Simply drive through, make a donation and receive a free McCain Foods product as a thank-you. Every donation helps support families staying at Ronald McDonald House Manitoba. 6:30 p.m. — City of Brandon Parks and Recreation presents Open Mic Night. Will be held at Rideau Park at 6:30 p.m. due to overland flooding at the Discovery Centre. This is a free event. Open to music, comedy, poetry and more.

7 p.m. — Music in the Park at the Jubilee Stage in Victoria Park in Virden (Seventh Avenue South and Seymour Street West) features Young at Heart at 7 p.m. The Legion will be hosting a barbecue at each concert throughout the summer starting at 6:15 p.m. In case of rain, the concert will be held at the Legion Hall (540 Eighth Ave.).

6:30 a.m. — Harding Agricultural Fair includes a pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m. Light and heavy horse shows, beef cattle shows, harness and miniatures and much, much more.

7:30 a.m. — Join us at the Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition at Morris for our pro-rodeo event on the Canadian Tour circuit. Complete with some of the top names in bull riding, bronco-busting, tie down roping, bareback riding and steer wrestling circles. Also get ready for the fast paced thoroughbred chariot and pony chuckwagon racing. Today: pancake breakfast at 7:30 a.m.; midway, powwow demo and much more. 11:30 a.m. — Wawanesa’s Pound Pail Paddle weekend kicks off today with burger days at the Sipiweske Museum from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fun for All at the Hall from 5-9 p.m. Hosted by Wawanesa School’s Backyard Improvement Project, features music, karaoke, lawn games, food and beverages for purchase as well as a beer gardens. The Wawanesa and District Community Hall annual fundraiser takes place at the Wawanesa Hall at 9 p.m. with live music by 8-Track Shuffle. Tickets available at Heritage Co-op or through Melissa at the Municipal Office.

5 p.m. — The Salamander Summer Music Festival will be held in Rideau Park for three days of Prairie music, food, art and culture. 7 p.m. — The Dakota Oyate Wacipi’s 80th annual Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Powwow takes place at the Sioux Valley powwow grounds over the weekend, featuring women’s traditional, jingle and fancy; men’s traditional, chicken, grass and fancy. There will also be a moccasin tournament. Drums by Dakota Hotain, Dakota Travels, Riverside Dakota as well as many other invited drum groups. Grand Entry at 7 p.m. Dakota Oyate Wacipi is a drug- and alcohol-free event. Security on site 24-7.

7 p.m. — The Oak Lake Agricultural Society fair kicks off tonight with live music at the Hall with Lyle Baldwin. $15 admission. Fireworks at dusk.

SATURDAY

7 a.m. — The Oak Lake Agricultural Fair continues with a pancake breakfast from 7-9 a.m. Parade at 10 a.m. followed by a day of horse and cattle shows, slo-pitch tournament, bacon chase, kids activities, beer gardens and lawn mower pull.

8 a.m. — The Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition continues at Morris with pro-rodeo events on the Canadian Tour circuit. Today: Parade at 10 a.m. Pro rodeo at 2 p.m.; chuckwagon at 7 p.m. Entertainment with Sean Taylor Band and DJ. 9 a.m. — The Market at the Riverbank has temporarily moved to the Sportsplex due to overland flooding at the Riverbank. We will be located under the trees just south of the running track west of the Sportsplex from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday until further notice of when we can move back. Please no parking in the Sportsplex staff parking lot. Park in the lot south of the Sportsplex building.

9 a.m. — Brandon’s Farmers’ Market will be held in The Town Centre parkade every Saturday until noon with in-season produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickles, crafts, candles and more. We will also have eggs and meat. Rain or shine, we’ve got you covered.

9 a.m. — The Minnedosa Agricultural Society presents the 141st Fair and Exhibition Weekend featuring horse and pony shows, heavy horse shows, MGRA, miniature show, silent auction, butter tart challenge, and much more. MGRA at 4 p.m.

Day — Westman Wilderness Club: Kinnis Creek Backpack in RMNP. This is an eight-kilometre trip and suitable for first-time backpackers with Di. Must have done at least a 10-kilometre day hike with the club. Will need to know by July 5 or ASAP as we’ll have to book sites. Cost is approximately $10-15 per person (depending on how many go). 10 a.m. — Wasagaming Community Arts is delighted to present our annual Rawhide & Jellyroll Makers Market taking place in the Gallery spaces of Wasagaming Community Arts (110 Wasagaming Dr.) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more than 30 years, the Rawhide & Jelly Roll Market has brought together a vibrant community of makers, artists and creative entrepreneurs.

10 a.m. — Neepawa Artfest, a celebration of art, music and community takes place today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with live music, barbecue, Farmery beverages and live art. Also it is the fifth year of the Amazing Race event. Riverbend market. Neepawa Legion’s 100th anniversary celebrations. Margaret Laurence’s 100th birthday celebrations and movie night featuring “The Stone Angel.” Fireworks to cap off the evening.

10 a.m. — Wawanesa’s Pound Pail Paddle event continues with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Rec Centre. With the river being so high this year, we have changed from “Boat” races to “Chariot” races. Build your chariot (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.); showcase your chariot in the parade at 2 p.m.; and chariot races at 3 p.m. Teams of 4-6. Bring your own tools. Power saw provided. Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia. Daly House, in partnership with Keywest Photo Images by Design, present Between the Cold: Prairie Light for a Wheat City, a photographic exhibit that explores the spaces that define Prairie life — not the extremes, but the intervals that exist between them. The exhibit features works by Gail Barre, Douglas Fraser, Brian Milne, Rob Lovatt, Katy Martin, Ron Nordstrom, Stino Scaretta and Pat Stone and will be on display until Oct. 1. Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Free admission. Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 70 local Manitoba artists. Now until Aug. 1, the Main Gallery is featuring two exhibitions: “Mending: Quilt Project 2025-26” with Melanie Rocan and “Renewal,” a travelling exhibition featuring 33 fibre and textile artists. In the Kayes Family Community Gallery until Aug. 1 is “Making Our Mark III,” a community exhibition of local Westman 2SLGBTQIA+ artists. Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Discover “WWII Command Posts,” a temporary exhibit at the RCA Museum, showcasing Canada’s mobile command vehicles and their role in co-ordinating artillery and communications during the Second World War. Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — Killarney-Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Arts Mosaic (425 6th Ave. South, Virden) — The Arts Mosaic Gallery is located in the historic CP Rail station in Virden. The Gallery consists of the Main Gallery and Gallery 2. Hours: Tuesday to Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Our current exhibition, Lesley Moffitt’s “A Fibre Art Exhibition,” will run until Aug. 1. July 23 — Charity barbecue and car show will take place on the east side of the parking lot at Heritage Co-op (1035 Richmond Ave.) All of the proceeds from the barbecue are donated to the Pediatric Ward at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. This event is sponsored by Heritage Co-op, Brandon and Memory Lane car club. Open to all show vehicles and motorcycles. July 23-26 — History comes alive at the annual Manitoba Threshermen’s Reunion and Stampede at the Manitoba Agricultural Museum near Austin. This is an outstanding celebration of Manitoba’s agricultural roots and pioneering spirit. Experience pioneer village demonstrations, steam engine and horse wagon rides, antique farming activities and much, much more. Every evening features Manitoba’s best semi-pro rodeo and live musical entertainment.

July 23-26 — Wawayseecappo Gar Bar Brandon presents its Rodeo and Customer Appreciation Days. The Rodeo features Canadian Cowboys Association’s highest semi pro rodeo payout in Manitoba. Bronc riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, ladies breakaway, barrel racing and goat tying. Peewee events and much more. JJ Voss and his Damn Good Band entertain on Friday and Saturday nights. Kids’ area, multiple food trucks, beer gardens and more. Admission: Adults $10; children $5; seniors and children 6 and under are free. Saturday also features Prairie Sky flea market and a Texas Holdem tournament.

July 25 — Westridge Park (61 Silverbirch Dr.) Spray Park theme day. Princess and Superhero Day. Open from noon to 8 p.m. Dress up as your favourite princess or superhero or magical character and have a day of splashing , creativity and fun with friends and family. Free admission. Everyone is welcome.

July 25 — The Pelican Campground and Lounge invites you to join them for an evening of live music with Tanglebox at the lounge in Ninnette (355 Front St. East) at 7:30 p.m.

July 26 Westman Jams gathers on the last Sunday of each month to play classic country music at The Fringe Restaurant and Lounge, on Cove Road in Shilo from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome. Entrance to CFB Shilo is now through the north gate only and valid identification is required to enter the base. We accept donations to the Reg Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund to help send Westman students to the International Music Camp at the International Peace Garden. Aug. 6 — Downtown Cruise Night takes place in downtown Brandon on Rosser Avenue between Sixth Street and 13th Street from 6 to 9 p.m. People wishing to show their vehicles are encouraged to enter the event at the intersection of Rosser Avenue and 13th Street.
