The Westman Magic rallied for a dramatic extra-inning victory to improve to 2-2 after the second day of Softball Manitoba’s under-17 provincial championship at Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex on Friday.

The Eastman Wildcats (4-0) beat the Magic 10-1 and the Manitoba Angels 13-5 to remain unbeaten while Central Energy (4-0) blanked the Interlake Phillies 7-0 and short-circuited the Winnipeg Lightning 8-1.

Westman’s second game was a wild one.

In the top of the eighth inning with two on and the score tied 5-5, Interlake’s Abi Minnie doubled in a pair of runs to break the deadlock. Keira Pattie then doubled in another run to put the Phillies (2-2) up 8-5.

The Magic promptly responded in the bottom of the extra inning. Callie Franklin drove in a run with a single and then Quinn Twordik got her fourth hit of the game to double in two more runs to tie, and then later scored the winning run on an error.

Katie Bell drove in three runs with a pair of hits, including a home run, and one run scored.

Callie Franklin won the game with 4 2/3 innings in relief of Twordik.

In their first game, Eastman was up 6-1 on the Magic when Lola Kihn hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Wildcats to a 10-1 mercy rule victory.

Westman managed just six hits off Eastman pitcher Karysa Neumann, who went the distance for the win. Paige Rampton took the loss, allowing four runs in 1 1/3 innings, with Callie Franklin and Jayce Whiteside both appearing in relief.

In the other games, the Smitty’s Terminators (1-3) beat Winnipeg 8-6 and fell to Manitoba 12-9.

Today, the Magic meet the Lightning (0-4) at 12:30 and the Smitty’s Terminators (1-3) today at 5:30, and would likely clinch a playoff spot with least one victory.

The top four teams advance to Sunday’s playoffs. The 1-vs.-2 and 3-vs.-4 games are at 10 a.m., with the loser of the former and the winner of the latter meeting in the semifinal at 12:30 p.m.

The winner of the semi then advances to meet the winner of the 1-vs.-2 game at 3 p.m.

The top two teams represent Manitoba at the national championship in Calgary from July 29 to Aug. 2, with the third- and fourth-place clubs heading to the western Canadian championships in St. Albert, Alta., from Aug. 6 to 9.
