• 60 YEARS AGO — Brandon West got a three-run homer from Rich McFayden in and went on to defeat St. Vital West 9-4 in the Little Canada “B” Baseball tournament.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Dave Knock scored three goals and Steve Sullivan and Marty Kulchyski two apiece as Wolves defeated Olympians 9-7 in Brandon Senior Soccer League play.
• 40 YEARS AGO — The Brandon team of Peggy Clark, Norma Bradley, Jamie Szocs and Alex Town shot a 224 to take the A Division low net title at the Manitoba Ladies Interclub championship in Winnipeg.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Darren Ash hit two triples and drove in four runs as the Simplot Pirates and 34th Street Bar and Grill Expos played to a 7-7 tie in Brandon Intermediate Baseball League action. Tim Hofer chipped in a pair of singles for the Pirates, while Chris Kurbatoff and Rob Ferguson each belted a triple and a single for the Expos.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Barbarians improved to 4-1 on the Manitoba Rugby Union season Saturday by disposing of the Sturgeon Creek Rowdies 46-5 in Division 2 play at Canada Games Rugby Park. Andrew Ritchie and Shane Morgan each scored two trys, and Kevin Teneycke and Jamie Erickson added single scores. Sean Common added to his league-best point total with 16 points on five conversions, a three-point penalty and a rare three-point drop kick.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Dustin Donald had four hits and scored three runs to lead the Portage Padres to a 12-12 tie with the host Carberry Royals in Game 2 of their Santa Clara Baseball League quarter-final. The Padres now lead the first-to-four-points series 3-1.
