AUSTIN — The Manitoba Threshermen’s Reunion & Stampede kicked off Thursday, bringing guests to Austin for a rodeo, camping, food and educational events tied to the history of agriculture.
The four-day reunion supported by the Manitoba Agricultural Museum included notable events on opening day such as a tractor parade, a historical fashion show and a game of tug of war between humans and a steam-powered engine.
The event is scheduled to run through Sunday night.

The newly introduced carnival-style midway added a ferris wheel the skyline, but the rides had not yet started on opening day and are slated to open today at 4 p.m.
Live music started on Thursday night and a number of food vendors had set up for the weekend, serving dozens of guests into the late afternoon.
The grandstand hosted a number of events through the afternoon, including an expanded Manitoba Clydesdale Classic show.
About 30 volunteers were involved in the operation of three steam-powered tractors on the grounds for several demonstrations. The tractors were used to power a sawmill, a shingle cutter and to tow a plough for demonstrations on how farmers used the machinery in the 20th century.
The midway was brought to the reunion this year for the first time in decades. It was added following a cancellation in Swan River due to flooding in the region.
