A police investigation determined the guard had been checking the public washrooms and found a man sleeping inside. The man awoke and became agitated, produced a pocketknife and lunged at the guard, police said.
Officers were given a description of the suspect and his last known whereabouts. Police later found the suspect a few blocks from the park and recovered a pocketknife in his possession, the release said.
The man was arrested and taken to the Brandon Police Service. Police said he will be released on an undertaking with a scheduled court appearance on Sept. 28.
Pair of break-ins
Brandon police responded to two break-ins between Sunday and Monday.
Officers responded on Sunday afternoon to a report of a break and enter at a building located in a livestock yard.

In the second incident, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, police were called to a report of a break and enter in the 500 block of Princess Avenue East.
Police said an individual had gained access to a home through a window and was making noise by “banging around inside.”
Officers arrived at the scene and located the suspect across the street from the residence, police said.
Police learned the woman entered the home to retrieve a sweater. A window screen was damaged during the entry.
