Evan Nachtigall of Brandon is tied for 12th after the first round of the 96-hole Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship on Monday at Mickelson National Golf Club and Heritage Pointe Golf Club in Calgary.
Nachtigall had six birdies and two bogeys in shooting a 4-under 68, which has him two strokes back of Tiger Xie of Surrey, B.C., Brett Jones of Calgary and Jay You of Langley, B.C., who all carded rounds of 66. Eight players shot 67.
Drew Jones of Brandon carded a four-over 76 and is tied for 195th in the massive field at an event that is running for the 121st time.
