Thieves rob victim of beer, wallet, shoes; man accused of possessing weapons, drugs, stolen property

Theft on Pacific

Around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, police were waved down by a man who said he had recently been robbed by an unknown group of people after he left a beer vendor.

Officers stopped to speak with the victim in the 1000 block of Pacific Avenue. He told police a group of people had stolen his beer, wallet and shoes before they fled the area, police said on Sunday.

The victim had minor injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate.

Alleged choking

A man has been charged with assault after he allegedly choked a woman, police said in a news release on Sunday.

Police located the suspect around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Officers said the man was involved in an altercation with a woman who had minor injuries and didn’t require medical treatment.

The man was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court.

No other information was provided about the suspect or victim.

Weapon possession

A 46-year-old man faces charges for possessing weapons, drugs and stolen property, police said in a news release on Saturday.

On Friday at 3:30 p.m., police stopped a pedestrian in the 1300 block of Victoria Avenue who had an arrest warrant for failing to attend court and breaching a probation order.

Officers said the man was carrying two bikes with one having been reported stolen.

After police arrested the man, officers alleged he had drugs in his possession, as well as blank cheques and three throwing knives. He was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.

Assault charge

A 27-year-old man has been charged with assault in connection to an incident on Saturday morning.

Police were called to a residence on the 1000 block of 10th Street just after 4:30 a.m. for a report of a man who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, police said in a news release on Saturday. The victim didn’t require medical treatment.

The suspect was taken into police custody and was later released on an undertaking with a future court date.

Police shooting

WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg police officer shot and injured an 18-year-old woman early Monday morning while investigating a College Avenue shooting.

A north district unit officer was in the area of Aikins Street and College Avenue at 2:27 a.m. when he heard multiple gunshots nearby, Winnipeg police said in a news release Monday.

The officer went to investigate and “was confronted by a woman and a 16-year-old youth.” The officer discharged his gun and the young woman was injured, the police service said. She was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable.

Police recovered a gun from the suspects and investigators later linked the woman and 16-year-old boy to a shooting that occurred outside of a home on College Avenue. The boy was arrested.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating the police shooting.
