• 60 YEARS AGO — It took a playoff but Harry Price, 50, one of the “youngsters” in the Western Manitoba Open golf championship, defeated veteran competitor Aub Frederickson, 54, at the Brandon Golf and Country Club to cop the laurels. Price sunk a three-foot par putt on the first playoff hole after the pair had shot 82s.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Gerry Clark, a 55-year-old golfer from the City of Brandon Community Recreation and Sports Centre, topped a 101- man field at the annual Western Manitoba Seniors golf tournament with a one-over-par score of 71.
• 40 YEARS AGO — The Manitoba Senior Baseball League all-star team consisted of: Mike Labossiere, Wes Coulson, Kerry Lowe, Terry Lynd, Donato Salinas, Hamiota; Dale Lowes, Fred Lagroue, Doug Burkey, McAuley; Lawson Davie, Mike Levandosky, Cam Biberdorf, Neepawa; Bob Williamson, Riverside; Doug Noch, Rick McFayden, Brandon, manager Al Robertson, Hamiota, and coach Garth White of Neepawa.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Jamie Waddell-Hodgson’s three-run home run in the first inning sparked the Brandon Cloverleafs to an 8-0 rout over the Ora Dental Marlins in Manitoba Senior Baseball League playoff action.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon Wheat Kings defenceman Riley Day signed his first professional contract with the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Brandon Wheat Kings forward Stelio Mattheos and Team Canada opened the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup on Monday with a 3-2 victory over Slovakia in extra time.
