• 60 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Muriel Clark carded an 89 to win the Western Manitoba ladies’ open golf championship. A total of 121 women participated.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Barry Gooden and Doug Brown kicked single goals to give the Olympians a 2-1 victory over the Spartans in a Brandon Senior Men’s Soccer League game. Gord Benstead tallied for Spartans.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Ken Schneider homered, tripled and drove in five runs as the North 40 Niners downed Hair Impressions 8- 3 in Brandon Commercial Fastball League action. Niners’ pitcher Don Pangman scattered seven hits and struck out two for the win.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Kara Brennan scored two goals to lift the Blazers to a 5-1 win over Neepawa in Brandon Senior Soccer League women’s action. Davilyn Coombs and Rachelle Friesen also sniped for the winners. Jen Birch replied for Neepawa.
• 20 YEARS AGO — John Ray slotted a pair of goals to help the Double Decker Fury clinch first place in the Brandon Senior Men’s Soccer League. Ray sparked the Fury to a 5-2 victory over the Royal Oak Royals at Optimist Park to help the Double Decker capture first place with an 11-2-3 record.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Jeff Peel threw a complete game as the Virden Oilers defeated the Boissevain Centennials to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five South West Baseball League final.
