Woman stabbed

Manitoba RCMP charged a 14-year-old boy with aggravated assault after a woman was stabbed on Saturday in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.

Mounties were called to a residence around 11 a.m. in the community northeast of Swan River for a report of a stabbing, RCMP said in a news release on Monday.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a 19-year-old woman who had been stabbed multiple times.

Officers learned the woman had been sleeping away from home and awoke to discover she has been stabbed while asleep, police said.

She ran outside to get help and was picked up by a passerby who drove her to her home, where family members called for help, RCMP said.

The woman was taken to the Brandon Regional Health Centre for medical care.

Following an investigation, RCMP arrested the teen from Sapotaweyak Cree Nation. The boy was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Domestic violence

Brandon police charged three people after a fight occurred at a residence early Monday morning.

Officers were called to a home on the 900 block of First Street around 1 a.m. for a report of a physical altercation between a 40-year-old man and 41-year-old woman, police said in a news release on Monday.

Both had visible injuries and told police they had been assaulted by each other.

Police said the woman had marks on her neck and claimed the man had choked and bit her. The man had injuries to his head and face and was taken to the Brandon Regional Health Centre before he was medically cleared and released into police custody.

Neither was co-operative in providing statements beyond their initial allegations to officers, police said.

Both were charged with intimate partner violence assault and the man faces an additional charge of choking to overcome resistance.

They were released on an undertaking and have future court dates in October.

Police also charged a third individual, who was at the residence during the incident on Monday, with breach of peace.

While officers were dealing with the man and woman, a highly intoxicated 31-year-old man repeatedly interfered with police and reached into his pockets pretending he had a weapon, police said.

The man allegedly refused to leave the residence when asked, police said. He was released from custody on Monday morning once sober.

Weapon possession

A 30-year-old man has been arrested after Brandon police say he stole from a business and had a knife.

On Sunday before 8 a.m., officers detained the man after he allegedly stole $23 worth of merchandise from a store on the 900 block of Victoria Avenue, police said on Monday.

Police said they found the stolen property and a knife in his possession.

The man was charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of a weapon, police said.

Resisting arrest

A man is facing multiple charges after Brandon police were called to a home for a domestic disturbance on Sunday afternoon.

Officers arrived at the home on the 300 block of Seventh Street shortly after noon, police said in a news release Monday.

A 33-year-old woman told police she had been assaulted by a man inside the home, police said.

The man briefly tried to barricade himself inside the home before police were able to force it open and arrest him, the release said.

A 35-year-old man was charged with domestic assault, mischief under $5,000 and resisting arrest. Police said he will be released on an undertaking and has a future court date of Oct. 26.
