A Brandon man was arrested in Dauphin for allegedly stealing electronic devices from a church on Sunday, Mounties say.

Around 9:30 a.m., RCMP were called to the church, located on Fifth Avenue Northeast, for a report of theft.

Police learned a man had gone to the church for a cup of coffee and allegedly stole a church official’s laptop and cellphone when they weren’t looking, RCMP said in a news release on Monday.

The official was momentarily distracted and noticed the suspect had left and their belongings were missing.

Police identified the suspect and arrested him without incident that evening outside a business on Memorial Boulevard.

None of the items were recovered, police said.

A 37-year-old man has been charged with theft under $5,000 and was released from custody on an undertaking.
