CARBERRY — Stride Credit Union cut the ribbon on its latest expansion, a new branch in Carberry, over a community barbecue on Aug. 12.
“We love the free lunch,” laughed Erika Henrikson, a town resident for eight years. She says events like these bring the community together.
“It lets us see people … and it lets us meet new people,” Henrikson said.

It was announced in November 2025 that Stride Credit Union would add a new branch to the town to “bridge the gap between Neepawa and Brandon area,” said Stride CEO, Brent Budz.
“We’re excited about the welcome from the community,” Budz said. “We’ve had growth in this area and (the Carberry location) is the natural progression.”
The event — held at Carberry CP Park, across the street from the new location at 10 Main St. — featured a lunch, ribbon cutting, and community mingling, which Mayor Ray Muirhead said is the local standard.
“Our residents support and volunteer for one another, don’t have to worry about (attendance) here,” Muirhead said. “The turnout is good, (Stride) went all out.”
“It’s nothing but a boon for the local economy,” he said.
Prior to Stride, the building was a BMO Bank of Montreal with roots in the town for 100 years. Muirhead said the departure left an economic void in the town when its doors were shut two years ago.
“It’s good for the community … and Main Street,” Muirhead said of Stride’s arrival, adding that he’s glad there are two financial institutions in town again.
MLA Jodie Byram was also present to help cut the ribbon.

“As one door closes, another one opens and I think this is a great opportunity to build capacity and business in the community of Carberry,” Byram said.
“When you have rural Manitoba opening a new business … I think that’s a reason to celebrate,” she said, making note of the community’s strong agricultural presence.
Budz said he’s happy to be part of a community where “agriculture drives the local economy.”
“Stride has a strong background in agriculture and local businesses,” Budz said, “we’re excited to be here in Carberry.”
Budz declined to comment on future Stride Credit Union branch expansions.
