Orson Lecheminant of Brandon finished 13th in his division at the Powerlifting World Championship in Sun City, South Africa.

The 16-year-old lifter squated 160 kg, bench pressed 120 kg and deadlifted 185 kg for a total of 465 kg in the 66-kg sub-junior division.

The squat and deadlift were new personal bests, while the bench press tied his best-ever lift.

The winner was Australian Jayden Michaels, who lifted 620 kg in the three events.

Each lifter had three attempts at each kind of lift, with the best successful attempt in each carried forward. Lecheminant was one of just two 2010-born athletes in his division, with 2008-born lifters taking the top five spots.
