An RCMP vehicle was damaged while in pursuit of a stolen truck near McCreary on Saturday.
RCMP in Ste. Rose du Lac responded to a report in the morning of a youth driving recklessly in McCreary. Officers patrolled the community and saw tire marks at the intersection of highways 5 and 50 that showed a vehicle had been doing donuts at the junction.
Shortly afterward, RCMP attempted to pull over a truck, activating emergency lights and siren for a traffic stop.
The driver of the truck sped off, almost going off the road at one point after nearly missing a turn, police said.
RCMP said the driver managed to stop in time, then put his truck in reverse and hit the police cruiser that had pulled up behind it.
The truck — later confirmed to have been stolen from Winnipeg the previous day — then drove away.
The officer in the vehicle was not injured.
The stolen truck was found abandoned near McCreary that morning while RCMP investigated another incident — a vehicle stolen from inside a residential garage a few kilometres away.
RCMP are investigating whether the two incidents are related.
