• 60 YEARS AGO — John Nelson came with a real rarity in the Brandon bowling world, when he bowled a perfect game of five-pin at Recreation Lanes. It was the second perfect game ever bowled in Brandon.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Marc Plante pitched a no-hitter in Brandon Minor Baseball Association East End peewee play as Simplot beat Trade Fair Exchange 14-1.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Donna Yorke scored a hole-in-one on the18th hole at the Sunnyside Golf and Country Club.
• 30 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Grey Owls held off a ninth-inning rally from the Southern Minny Stars to record a 9-8 Prairie League victory. Jeff Robertson of Birtle led the Owls with three singles, a run scored and an RBI. John Sullivan chipped in with a double and a single.
• 20 YEARS AGO — It took seven games to win a best-of-five series, but it was worth the wait for the Minnedosa Mavericks. After playing to a pair of 12-12 ties in back-to-back deciding games called due to darkness, the Mavericks finally put away the Carberry Royals with an 11-9 victory to clinch the Santa Clara Senior AA Baseball League championship. Brad Roth led the Mavericks by going 4-for-4 at the plate
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings grew a lot bigger after a trade with the Victoria Royals. Brandon picked up six-foot-two, 180-pound defenceman Jordan Wharrie, six-foot-four, 194-pound right-winger Tyler Thompson and his six-foot-five, 229-pound brother Baron, who also plays right wing. In return, the team gave up two unsigned prospects, 17-year-old forward Jeremy Klessens and 16-year-old goaltender Brendan Benoit, and three draft picks.
