TORONTO – Former Sportsnet broadcaster Christine Simpson says she has breast cancer.

The 61-year-old from London, Ont., shared her diagnosis on social media Wednesday.

Simpson says that doctors caught the cancer early and that she’ll be receiving treatment at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in downtown Toronto.

The sister of former NHLer Craig Simpson, she began her career as the marketing manager of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Her first television job was a 10-year run with Sportsnet starting when the cable channel launched in 1998.

After doing TV in the United States for a couple of years, she returned to Sportsnet as its hockey features reporter in 2011, leaving the network in 2024.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Sept. 2, 2026.
