• 50 YEARS AGO — Defending champion Duffy Bredt shot 69 and breezed to a nine-shot win over Ed Adams and Murray Lindenberg in the 36-hold Gold Leaf tournament.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Bob Andrews swatted a triple and two singles to lead Rent-A-Wreck to a series clinching 12-8 victory over A&W in Brandon Merchants Fastball League B-Division final.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Shane Moffatt, threw a complete-game six-hitter and struck out 13 as Brandon edged St. Boniface 2-1 in Game 2 of the provincial championship series.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon native Travis Mealy has joined the University of P.E.I. Panthers hockey program. The 21-year-old defenceman played the last part of last season with the P.E.I. Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and was recruited by UPEI coach Dylan Taylor.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Shilo Country Club quartet of Bill Key, Bill Bolley, Dan LeBarron and Dwight Edwards combined to shoot a 41-over 257 in the rural division of Golf Manitoba’s senior men’s interclub championship at the Links at Quarry Oaks.
