• 60 YEARS AGO — Legion tied up the best of seven Brandon Pony League final by edging Elks 4-3. Teddy Grant homered for Legion. Winning pitcher was Clark Down.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Kent Wells, with a heavy foot on the accelerator of his Mini-Cooper S, had a big weekend as the Wheat City Sports Car Club played host to a regional slalom and a hill climb at Margaret. Wells won both events.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Mark Shanks led the way with an effort of 262 yards, six inches to capture the Smitty’s-Taurus Golf Long Driving Challenge. Gord Paziuk took second with 256 yards, three inches.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Tom Maines scored on touchdown runs of two and 44 yards in addition to scoring a two-point convert as the Neepawa Tigers defeated the Dauphin Clippers 26-12 in Rural Manitoba Football League action. Maines finished the day with 114 yards on 13 carries.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Dauphin Clippers got the Rural Manitoba Football League season under way triumphantly with a 41-14 win over the Neepawa Tigers. The Clippers, who lost in the league championship a year ago, got their offence going behind quarterback Kevin Thompson who threw three touchdowns and went 9-for-13 for 174 yards. He also ran 16 times for 149 yards including a 15-yard scamper for a major.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Brandon Ringette players will face a more competitive schedule this season. For the first time, the organization has committed to have its under-12 and under-14 teams play in the Winnipeg league.
