• 60 YEARS AGO — Lawsons won the East End A championship by beating Keddys 1-0 in the final game of their series. Dave McLennan hit two of the singles for Lawsons, while Jim Renwick, Danny Lane, Murray Way and Mark Worthington had one apiece.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The Brewers pounded out an incredible 37 hits, including two homers and two triples by Craig Emery, in whipping the Blues 28-8 in Brandon Commercial Fastball League playoff action. Winning pitcher Murray McDonald chipped in three singles.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Doug Nixon and Bruce Clark scored as Brandon Club United dumped the Brandon University Bobcats 2-0 in Brandon Senior Soccer League men’s action. Dave Bebbington recorded the shutout.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Laird Lidster finished 24th in the 30-to-34 age group at the Ironman Wisconsin triathlon. Lidster, 32, finished the gruelling course in 10 hours, 43 minutes and 53 seconds. He completed the 3.9-kilometer swim in 1:14:16, finished the 180.2-kilometre bike in 5:50:01 and then ran a full marathon in 3:29:07.
