• 60 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Cloverleafs whipped the Hamiota Red Sox 10-6 to take a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Manitoba Senior Baseball League final. Warren Veale and Bob Wilson had singles and Bob Thompson smashed a double to score two runs.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Pic-A-Pop ladies’ fastball team culminated an outstanding season by beating Muntz 18-14 for the Brandon and District Ladies’ Fastball League B division championship. Dodie Culbertson and Donna Trottier combined for the pitching win against Muntz’ Lorna Lang.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Carol and Theresa Wiebe won the mother-daughter golf tournament at the Rec Centre and Lois and Nancy Cornell placed second.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Dagmar Fortmuller-Dickson held on to his opening-round lead to capture the Medium 2 class at the Manitoba Dressage Championships at the Keystone Centre. Riding aboard Alascan, the Bragg Creek, Alta., rider held off Erika Crone and Hilary Versavel to clinch the title.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The opening volleys in the battle for the backup spot have been fired and Joe Caligiuri is hoping to take his shot tonight. After watching 16-year-old Andrew Hayes make his WHL exhibition debut after replacing 19-year-old veteran Kurt Jory, the 17-year-old Caligiuri is expected to get his chance to show what he can do tonight when the Brandon Wheat Kings travel to Swift Current to battle the Broncos.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Westman Wildcats completed an undefeated weekend at a pre-season tournament in Swift Current, Sask., with a 2-1 victory over the Swift Current Wildcats. Camryn Clyne and Andrea Sanderson sniped for Westman, with Shaelyn Vallotton drawing an assist.
