• 60 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Cloverleafs edged Transcona Atomics 6-5 in 10 innings to capture the Manitoba senior baseball championship. Team members were: Gary Greaves, Jack Borotsik, Ron Toews, Gerry MacKay, Maurice Oakes, Brian Hodgson, Mort Wright, Tom Town, Mike Repin, Bob Wilson, Ron Powers, Bill Chapple, Warren Veale, Stan Furman, Bob Thompson, Lloyd Brown, Gary Toews and manager Irv Powers.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Catcher Harvey Julseth, second baseman Paul Anderson and centre fielder Bill Edwards of the Pizza Place Merchants were named to the Manitoba Senior A Men’s Fastball League all-star team.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Brad McCrimmon was suspended by the NHL club for refusing to play in any more pre-season games without a new contract.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Jamie Scott scored twice as the Brandon Wheat Kings played the Southwest Cougars to a 3-3 draw in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League pre-season action. Ryan McLean added a goal and an assist for the Wheat Kings. Darcy Clark, Jeff Cassan and Derek Elliott replied for the Cougars.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The welcome wagon was out in full force as Dustin Kohn returned to the Brandon Wheat Kings. The 19-year-old defenceman was reassigned by the NHL’s New York Islanders on the weekend and Kohn rejoined his Wheat King teammates for the first time at practice at the Keystone Centre.
• 10 YEARS AGO — On a night when the Brandon Wheat Kings were celebrating their 50th season in the Western Hockey League and unveiling their 2015-16 championship banners, Mother Nature and an older building upstaged both. The Wheat Kings game with the Moose Jaw Warriors at Westman Place was called off 14:23 into the second period due to fog on the ice that had grown steadily worse.
