Brandon police officers blocked off multiple streets in the Valleyview area late Thursday evening during a standoff with a man who allegedly threatened to blow up a house with gas.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., police responded to a report about a man that had stabbed a woman with a needle at a business on the 1100 block of 18th Street.
The man had left the area before police arrived and the woman was taken to the hospital for “non-life-threatening medical treatment,” police said in a news release Friday.

Officers saw the man running into a house on Creighton Boulevard at around 7 p.m.
During the ensuing standoff, the man “made numerous concerning statements and at one point threatened to blow up the house using gas,” police said.
Police notified Manitoba Hydro as a precaution.
Ten police cruisers, including a tactical vehicle, and an ambulance and fire rescue truck were parked near the house between Creighton Boulevard and Whillier Drive around 8:15 p.m.
Three police officers operated two drones at the scene as other officers, dressed in tactical gear, stood with a police dog.

Neighbours were advised to stand back for safety reasons while police were in the area.
One resident was told he couldn’t enter his home on Whillier Drive, so he waited for hours in his truck parked in a back lane while his family members sheltered in the basement.
The suspect, a 38-year-old man, was taken into custody after extended negotiations, police said.
He was charged with assault with a weapon, breach of probation warrant and resisting arrest.
Police seized an unsecured rifle and left the area shortly after 11:30 p.m.

Police said the man was held in custody overnight and appeared in court Friday morning.
