BRANDON UNIVERSITY
Dr. Annie Borch of the University of British Columbia will talk about volcanic eruptions in complex mountain drainages in this week’s Science Seminar Series talk on Tuesday. She will discuss using forensic volcanology to understand past environments and future hazards. The talk will take place at 1 p.m. in Room 4-47 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre and will also be available online. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for more information.
Michif curator, writer and art history professor Cathy Mattes will give an artist talk, presented by the Ishkaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art on Tuesday. Mattes, who currently teaches at the University of Winnipeg, will speak at 1:40 p.m. in the Sutherland Gallery of Art at 2021 Victoria Ave. All are welcome.

The Brandon Teachers’ Association and CUPE Local 737 will present a forum for Brandon School Division trustee candidates for the upcoming municipal elections on Tuesday. The forum will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Evans Theatre, next to the BU library.
The Bobcats soccer teams will host the Assiniboine College Cougars on Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre, with the men playing at 1 p.m., and the women at 3:15. The Bobcats will be on the road on Sunday.
Brandon University will be closed for Thanksgiving on Oct. 12. The Healthy Living Centre will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The university will reopen for regular hours on Oct. 13.
Alumnus Dr. Thomas Humphries will return to BU on Oct. 13 to talk about artificial intelligence. Humphries will discuss AI in relation to privacy versus utility, and to the potential for harm. The talk will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Room 1-52 of the Brodie building.
