• 60 YEARS AGO — McMillan Meat Packers won the city Pee Wee baseball crown. Members of the team included: Ken White, Allan Chapman, Dennis Figol, Brad Gradidge, Bill Buchanan, Brad Yarish, George McConechy, Tommy Sebastian, Darrell Wood, Barry McPhail, Dave Yarish, Brian Kissock, Ken Djuff, Bruce Bell, Curtis Gustafson and coach Bill Gadd.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Veteran defenceman Dallas Smith, a Hamiota-area native, ended a pre-season hold-out and signed a new one-year contract with Boston Bruins.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Cliff Clisby rolled up a storm in 10-pin bowling with a 721 series, which included a near-perfect score of 277 and an impressive 257.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Dane Samuel raced his way to the top spot in the first running of the Shi-Lo-Road Run. Samuel, who covered the 26.2- kilometre course in 1:46:30, finished more than a minute and a half ahead of Christopher Marshall in second place. David Zimmer finished third overall.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Tyler Stanley ran home two touchdowns for the Crocus Plains football team in a 29-0 victory against the Neepawa Tigers. Luke Russell-Yearwood completed four of eight passes for 48 yards in the game.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon University Bobcats men’s basketball team lost their exhibition opener to the Lakehead Thunderwolves. Earl Thompson Jr. led the team with 21 points while Tyvon Cooper added 14 points and Josh Bell put up 10.
