The Wheat Kings (4-0-0) beat the Central Plains Capitals (1-6-0) in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League.

On Saturday at Portage la Prairie’s Stride Place, Kale Nicol scored twice as the Wheat Kings rebounded from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Capitals 6-3. Brayden Watt, Eric Berger, Graycen Van Meijl and Hunter Ethelston had the other goals for the visitors.

Aurick Veldhuisen made nine saves for Brandon, with Riley Foster turning aside 58 shots for Central Plains.

The Wheat Kings host the Winnipeg Wild at J&G Homes Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and then visit the Winnipeg Thrashers at Seven Oaks Community Centre on Saturday at 7 p.m.

SOUTHWEST COUGARS

The Cougars (3-3-0) split against the Norman Northstars (1-3-0) at Thompson’s C.A. Nesbitt Arena.

On Sunday, the Cougars fell behind 3-0 but began the comeback with goals by Jaxson Cullen and Coleton Koop. Just as they closed within a goal, however, Braden Arthurson replied for Norman, and Jordan Knox’s goal wasn’t enough in a 4-3 Southwest loss.

Dawson Smart made 35 saves for Southwest, with Parker Clements blocking 31 shots for Norman.

On Saturday, Knox and Skyler Deacon each scored twice and Koop and Cullen sniped once in a 6-3 Cougars win. They raced out to a 3-0 in the first half of the opening frame.

Southwest’s Liam Banga and Norman’s Westyn Hlady both made 25 saves.

The Cougars next take to the ice when they visit Yellowhead at Shoal Lake Communiplex on Thursday at 8 p.m., and then they host the Interlake Lightning at Souris/Glenwood Memorial Complex on Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.

YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS

The Chiefs (2-2-1) were defeated by the Winnipeg Bruins (5-0-0) at Shoal Lake Communiplex.

On Saturday, the Chiefs fell behind 2-0 in the first period and never quite managed to find their way back, falling 5-4. Colin Melnyk, Winston Lepp, Lane McDonald and Destin Knight had the goals for the hosts.

Landon McGregor made 25 saves for Yellowhead, with Logan German stopping 36 shots for Winnipeg.

In their only action of the week, the Chiefs host the Cougars on Thursday at 8 p.m.

PARKLAND RANGERS

The Rangers (0-7-0) dropped three games over the weekend against the Winnipeg Bruins and the Interlake Lightning (3-1-0) at Dauphin’s Credit Union Place.

On Sunday, Joshua Weir and Parks Gardner scored but the Rangers fell 6-2. Connor Thorn made 24 saves for Parkland — plus stopped a penalty shot — with Connor Lemieux blocking 21 shots for Interlake.

On Saturday, the Rangers scored a season-high three goals — off the sticks of Carter Rands, Kellan Shtykalo and Nolan Shaw — but they fell 6-3. Benji Gardner made 39 saves for Parkland, with Sawyer Henkelman blocking 24 shots for Interlake.

On Friday, Felix Huberdeau scored and the Rangers kept it close, but they fell 4-1 to the Bruins. Connor Thorn made 48 saves for Parkland, with Logan German blocking 18 shots for Winnipeg.

The Rangers host the Kenora Thistles on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

WESTMAN WILDCATS

The Wildcats (3-0-0) topped the Central Plains Capitals (0-4-1) in the Manitoba Female Hockey League U18 AAA at Portage la Prairie’s BDO Centre for the Community.

On Friday, Fergie Bertholet, Adi Henwood and Demi Hodson scored in a 3-1 victory. Indigo Stone made 19 saves for Westman, with Calleigh Duchart stopping 23 shots for Central Plains.

The Wildcats have a busy week ahead, with three home games at Hartney Arena. The Winnipeg Avros visit on Friday at 7:30 p.m., the Eastman Selects on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and the Interlake Lightning on Sunday at 2 p.m.

YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS
