Residents will soon see more than 400 trees planted around the Canada Packers Sports Complex.

The City of Brandon announced it received $67,470 that will be used to plant around 470 trees throughout the complex on Veterans Way, the city said in a news release on Friday.

The trees will “enhance the site’s natural beauty (and) increase shade and comfort for users,” the city said in the release.

The funding was granted through the Growing Canada’s Community Canopies initiative, which was announced by the federal government in 2024.

The federal initiative aims to plant “at least 1.2 million new trees across Canada by the end of March 2031,” the release said.

The city did not provide a timeline for when tree planting will begin.
