Matheus Ruffini and Victor Andrade scored as the Brandon University Bobcats emerged from the longest game in Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference men’s soccer history with a 3-1 victory on Friday evening.

The game, which began on Sept. 26 but was suspended at halftime due to unplayable conditions, resumed with the second half starting on Friday evening in Winnipeg and the score tied 1-1.

The BU women won 3-1 as Keashae Masters, Sara Switzer and Jorja Hoad found the net.

On Sunday, Masters scored twice, with Switzer, Hoad, Abby-Jo Wark and Chelsey Hoad adding singles in a 6-0 victory over Canadian Mennonite University.

The BU men lost 1-0 to CMU.

The Assiniboine College Cougars were eliminated from playoff contention on the weekend, as the men lost 3-0 to the Providence Pilots on Saturday and 3-0 to the St. Boniface Les Rouges on Sunday.

The Cougars women lost 13-0 to the Pilots and 8-0 to Les Rouges.

This weekend, the Bobcats host the Pilots on Saturday with first place in the women’s standings on the line. Brandon (7-2-1) is three points behind Providence (8-1-1) but would take the season series and hold the tiebreaker for the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage for the playoffs with a win.

The BU men (3-4-3) are in fourth place, but could pass Providence (4-3-3) with a multi-goal victory. A one-goal win would leave the two deadlocked in the season series, requiring other tie-breaking procedures should they finish tied for third.

The Cougars visit the Bobcats to close the regular season on Sunday.
