CALGARY – Calgary police say a driver allegedly ran over a man twice as he was lying on the sidewalk outside a Sikh place of worship.
Police say a man in his 50s tried to turn into the parking lot at a gurdwara just east of the airport Monday morning.
Police say he drove over the man on the sidewalk and realized the parking lot was closed.
They allege he then reversed over the man’s body on his way to search for another parking spot before bystanders alerted him.
The man was taken to hospital and later died from his injuries.
Police are continuing to investigate the situation, including why the man was on the sidewalk and whether there will be charges laid against the driver.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published on Oct. 26, 2026.
Note to readers:This is a corrected story. A previous version said the gurdwara is west of the Calgary airport. In fact, it’s to the east.
